How often do you blog? If you blog at least once a week then it’s a good idea to create a blog posting routine. This will ensure that your blog posts are consistent and that they create the results you desire.
Step One: Identify Your Most Creative Time
This is actually a two-part process. You want to both identify when you feel most productive and creative. In addition to actually writing or creating your blog posts, you’ll want to have creative time to plan your blog content for the week or month. Depending on how many blog posts you publish each week you might set aside two days for content creation and one day for planning.
So when are you most creative and productive? Pay attention to when you have the most energy and creative inspiration. It may be that first thing in the morning you’re a down to the business type of person. By lunchtime, you may be winding down on the tasks and ready for more strategic and creative work. Or you might be a night person who feels inspired when the sunsets.
Step Two: Follow Through and Schedule
Once you’ve realized when you’re most likely to be productive and creative, schedule time to brainstorm and strategize. For example, if you normally publish a blog post a day you’ll want to plan a week’s worth of content at least one week in advance. It’s often safer to plan a month in advance, however some industries are sensitive to timeliness and that may not be effective for you.
You’ll also want to schedule a time to create the blog posts that you’ve planned. For example, if you have a week’s worth of blog content to write, how long will it take you to write it? Some people are fast writers and it’ll only take one morning to write a week’s worth of posts. Others take longer. Know yourself and schedule accordingly.
Step Three: Assess and Adapt
There are also several facets of the assess step. You’ll want to assess your systems. Is your blog routine working? Why or why not? What can you change to make it more effective? For example, if you’re feeling like you’re in a content rut then you may need to add a research element to your blog strategy time so you can review trends and search blog comments and social media for inspiration.
The second facet of the “assess and adapt” step is to evaluate how successful your blog posts are. Are they achieving the goals you’ve established? Are you getting the readership, subscribes, clicks, and comments that you desire? If not then take a look at the posts that are doing better than the others and embrace that information in your next blog topic strategy session.
